In a recent interview with Variety, Vijay Varma opened up about the intricacies of shooting for Matka King and also offered intriguing insights into the series, he said, “It’s the rise of a very interesting business, and at the same time, an individual who found a certain kind of loophole in a system and tried to make a lot of money through it. We are 30%, 40% in right now, and we will be shooting till the end of December.” As of now, Vijay Varma is busy wraaping up the shooting for his upcoming project.
Speaking about Matka King, it an original series for Prime Video that is set against the vibrant backdrop of 1960s and 1970s Mumbai. It highlights the fictional story of an ambitious cotton trader who yearns for legitimacy and respectability In his pursuit, he creates a revolutionary gambling game known as ‘Matka,’ which rapidly captures the city’s imagination, transforming a space once dominated by the affluent elite into a realm accessible to all. Directed by Nagraj Manjule, Matka King is produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur under the banner of Roy Kapur Films.
Vijay Varma is currently also basking in the success of his recent projects, that included another Prime Video series Mirzapur 3, Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack – based on true events. As for his upcoming projects, along with Matka King, he also has the film Ul Jalool Ishq, co-starring Fatima Sana Shaikh in the pipeline for release.
